Starch-Based Hybrid Nanomaterials for Environmental Remediation
نویسندگان
چکیده
Environmental pollution is becoming a major global issue with increasing anthropogenic activities that release massive toxic pollutants into the land, air, and water. Nanomaterials have gained most popularity in last decades over conventional methods because of their high surface area to volume ratio higher reactivity. including metal, metal oxide, zero-valent ions, carbonaceous nanomaterials, polymers function as adsorbents, catalysts, photocatalysts, membrane (filtration), disinfectants, sensors detection removal various such heavy metals, organic pollutants, dyes, industrial effluents, pathogenic microbial. Polymer-inorganic hybrid materials or nanocomposites are highly studied for contaminants. Starch, heteropolysaccharide, natural biopolymer generally incorporated other polymeric nanoparticles has been reported environmental remediation applications low-cost alternative petroleum-based polymers. Therefore, this chapter mainly highlights nanomaterials used remediation, starch-based application limitations.

We describe the use of seawater as fuel to propel Janus micromotors. The new micromotors consist of biodegradable and environmentally friendly magnesium microparticles and a nickel-gold bilayer patch for magnetic guidance and surface modification. Such seawater-driven micromotors, which utilize macrogalvanic corrosion and chloride pitting corrosion processes, eliminate the need for external fue...
متن کاملMethanotrophs: promising bacteria for environmental remediation
Methanotrophs are unique and ubiquitous bacteria that utilize methane as a sole source of carbon and energy from the atmosphere. Besides, methanotrophs may also be targeted for bioremediation of diverse type of heavy metals and organic pollutants owing to the presence of broad-spectrum methane monooxygenases enzyme. They are highly specialized group of aerobic bacteria and have a unique capacit...
متن کاملFunctionalized Magnetic Nanoparticles for Environmental Remediation
Water pollution by anthropogenic activities is proving to be of critical concern as the heavy metals affect aquatic organisms and can quickly disperse to large distances. This poses a risk to both human health and the aquatic biota. Hence, there is a need to treat the wastewater containing toxic metals before they are discharged into the water bodies. During recent years, magnetic nanoparticles...
